My current MINI which is the second one I have been the primary driver of and the third MINI that we have owned got its name based on why I purchased it. We had decided that our middle daughter would purchase (for a reduced price) my 04 Cooper to help establish credit which left me without a car. Having just made the rank of Master Chief in the Navy we went to look for a replacement. I tried several cars that day and finally found that the "S" was a blast to drive and that one of them was going home with me. Needless to say the "Master Blaster" was born. Now with 29 years in the Navy I find myself hanging with a great group of friends in MidCal MINI's or over in the the Military Veterans in the Social Group area.
My first MINI, an '06 MCS was PW with black roof. I tried for weeks to come up with a name before I actually had picked him up. The night I got home with him we were all standing around gazing in wide wonder at the miracle in our garage and my son commented that it looked like the horse in that cartoon I used to love. El Kabong was christened that night and was the perfect mix of funny and superhero. My new '11 MCS is named GoKart Mozart, from the song "Blinded by the Light", we call him Mozart for short . It seemed a fitting name for a Horizon Blue for some reason. Annette
My first MINI, a '62 Cooper S wasn't christened, but my 2nd - a 2003 Electric Blue Cooper S JCW was - it was the Blue Meni named for the character in Yellow Submarine...it also vaguely could be thought of as simply a mis-spelling of Blue Mini . My current MINI is a 2009 Clubman, which goes by Max, because at the time it was the maximum sized MINI you could buy - of course now it's been supplanted by the Countryman. I also am a fan of Maxwell Smart, so it could be said to be named after him, since it's so competent at everything it does.....would you believe.....
Wow.... Sailor Moon.... Does that bring back memories. That was my daughter's favorite.... She made her own handmade Sailor Moon outfit for Halloween. So mine's Fungo Squiggly.... A takeoff of the gokart handling "it's fun to go squiggly"...
The Beast got his name after I had him for a week or so. Pressing the gas pedal hard unleashes the beast hiding under the 'cute' exterior. Motor On! Chris
My previous MINI, a 2009 Clubman S, got his name as a result of a FB poll/contest. I had been badgered / threatened to name my car so I decided to let FB name it. The name 'Nigel' was the winner (and most-suggested). I referred to my MINI as 'my MINI' but others called him Nigel. When I traded the Clubman S in for a Clubman JCW, the name transferred over. My wife's 2011 cabrio is named Fassbender, shortened to Bender. Fassbender is German for 'barrel maker' (literally). The trade name for those who make casks, barrels, etc is 'cooper'. Pretty crafty :ihih:
"Montag" is derived from the old movie Fahrenheit 451. As the lead character, Montag (Oskar Werner) portrays a fairly well regimented Fireman tasked with the burning of all literature, and is forced to choose between his own personal safety and intellectual freedom. As I have conquered neither, nor do I wish to, it seemed an appropriate name to adopt. The car's color scheme has a distant resemblance to the fire engine used in the movie, as well. I have also adopted the number 451 (a significant temp for us fire folks) as my CROC ID number. Cheers! :beer Ahh, let's make it a double. That's post 200! :beer
This one is not that old but I thought it would be good to bring it back to the top again and see what happens.
Silverback...a two pronged name 1. it's a silver hatchback, 2. because it is driven by an old large gorilla - me:biggrin5:
I usually don't name vehicles but, I started referring to my MINI as "The MINI Pooper". I even altered the Cooper emblem on the barn door to reflect it. Dave
Sooner or later, I have named about every car I have owned. MINIs beg for names, IMHO, but I let them come to me. When I ordered my MCS Coupé, I did a lot of thinking about names, and nothing I came up with really grabbed me. One of my Sunshine MINIs friends suggested "Secret Squirrel," since I had kept my Coupé purchase a secret for 2+ months until I could reveal it in person at a local meet. I liked that idea, but immediately took a tangent to a name that I thought fit perfectly: Rocky the Flying Squirrel. Why is this perfect? Well, he's got a helmet, a tail, and a penchant for what feels like aerobatic maneuvers. Kinda makes me wanna name my '92 Supra "Bullwinkle."
Bill- I have named all my cars/trucks as well. My Jeep was named Bullwinkle. When I would 4wheel, when the brakes got wet and crap in them, they would make a noise like a moose :biggrin5:
About a year after buying my '02 Cooper I'd found a good euro plate bracket and was trying to think of something to put on the plate. I was going for something clever that fit the car or the way it drives or just the unique sort of fun I felt driving it. One day while wracking my brain trying to pick the "perfect" word/abbreviated phrase, my now late then quite physically and increasingly cognitively disabled wife Celia (she had MS) asked me what I was doing. I explained, never knowing how much she would understand from one day to the next, but she was firing on most of her cylinders that day and when I finished she said "Zippy!" I'd never considered naming a car and didn't take it that way. Still fixated on thoughts of fun driving or what the car was like or whatever I automatically assumed that was her intent as well, so I asked "why?" She said "because that's his name!" This was news to me but given the beautiful, proud smile on her face how could I argue? And why would I? Zippy it is!
When I was ordering my car, I took an image of a Pepper White MINI with a white roof and used Photoshop to 'paint' the arches. When I posted the resulting pic to my local board, DickDavid made a comment that it looked very 'stormtrooper'. The father of all stormtroopers is Jango Fett, and the name of 'Jango' seemed to stick.
How I named my Mini My Mini is named CHUDLEIGH. It is named after a dear departed dog owned by Jacquie Lawson who does the most wonderful animated cards I’ve ever seen. Her main theme is wildlife and animals, her most oft used animal was her Dog Chudleigh (a brown Labrador Retriever ). She works out of her home in a little village in southern England named Lurgashall. I felt it was only right to name my Mini after her dog. In case you are wondering , her site is <http://www.jacquielawson.com>. --- PS: I am not connected to this site except for being a paid member
My wife had an 87 cavalier that she named Cameron because she thought it was a hypochondriac (like the guy from Ferris Buellers Day Off). If another one of our vehicles had a problem it never failed that Cameron would develop issues. Outside of that, I had never named a car. The MINI has too much personality and had to be named. One of my children's favorite movies is Despicable Me. So MINION was born. (Minion - a follower devoted to serving his/her master relentlessly.) It's also pretty sweet that MINI is part of the name.
I just call it The MINI. Because I frequently own several vehicles at a time they simply take on the name of what they are with "The" in front. The MINI.
Kowalski... Because the whole car is white and black like a penguin... and Kowalski is a penguin on the show/movie Penguins of Madagascar Kyle
