I guess I'm the pokey one here, but 95 indicated. I just wanted to see how stable my Cooper felt and if there was more there, which there was. I'm more into the twisties then the raw power thing, but that's just me. I still remember those films they showed in study hall in HS like, "Death On The Highway". :yikes: Jim
I went 142mph (gps, ~145 on the gauge) all stock on Route 3 between I-495 and NH. Made it from Billerica to Nashua in 7 mins! Haven't had the chance to open her up yet after the engine upgrades
Didn't you mean CAM. That cam will raise your effective RPM range so you should see about 4-6 mph increase.
6th gear pull, 140 speedo (137 gps) with my car full of stuff from college headed home for the summer!
Having a GPS mounted in my car gives me insight to what others do in my car. My 2 girls borrowed it to visit an Aunt in Georgia. They got back to town, busted at 97! So I'm out tooling around one day and decide to push 100-110 on some flat empty interstate. I slowed back down and touched the GPS to see my top speed. WHAT? Someone had pushed Winnie to 137!!! I find out later that my 20 year old son had tracked her about a week before and maxed my GPS. He confessed, what else could he do, GPS don't lie. My wife was furious but I assured her that I had done the same in a friends car when I was young. 145mph in a customized '37 Ford Coupe with a 327!:aureola:
I know they are accurate but they can screw up. I borrowed my mothers GPS once for a roadtrip, just before resetting the previous trip stats I noticed the average speed was 145KPH(90MPH) for a 900KM trip. I would be surprised if my parents would even hit 145, there is no way they maintained it long enough for it to be the average.
With my bench-tested 271 hp, big valve, high lift cam engine, I got an indicated 148 and still going. There just are not any back roads long enough to wind it all the way out. It's way too difficult to do this on an interstate so I would not attempt it. I much prefer the track to the street anyway. The fastest 2 mile track in the country (Nelson Ledges, near Akron, OH) is fairly close to me and I can get 135 down the back straight but I'm still only in 5th! That's on 225/40/17s which read low on the speedometer so I don't know exactly
Get there quicker too, Jan's tuning it tommorrow so I haven't run it hard yet but it do feel more EAGER to go!! Can't wait till this weekend on VIR!
John, not sure about the size of your melon, but lookie-here: The 24 Hours of LeMons Forums / Brand New Zeronine Carbon Fiber Helmet
I love Nelson. While not as fancy as Mid-Ohio it is a very homey place where everyone treats you like a friend. You are correct it is one fast track.:yesnod: My top speed there, well I haven't been able to take my eyes off the track going into turn 12 to look at the speedo. I do know I was hauling the mail pretty darned good.
Yes, haulin' the mail! If you can nail it through that last right hand sweeper down the back without hitting the dip with your left side wheels and without lifting off, your speed has to be in the 130s, even stock I would think. Exit speed through the carousel is paramount also. About 90 mph is what I aim for or about half way through 3rd gear
Most important turns, 13 & the carousel for sure. When I raced it took me a few races before I could take the kink on the straight flat to the floor. Once I mastered that lap times really dropped. I don't know if you have noticed this, but at track days most folks lift or even brake for the kink. It can make for lots of excitement when the car in front nails the brakes there as you are screaming up on it with no intentions of lifting let along braking there. :eek6: Hope to see you there sometime.
Plug the coordinates into Google Earth for exact location. It was a slight downhill, but I had the AC going full blast and there wasn't a soul in sight. I slowed to go around a sweeping bend and saw a Trooper just entering the highway. Good thing the brakes were in good shape!
oooOOOOoooo late to the party. GPS varified at 154.3 mph if I remember correctly. This was 2006 ish so I forget what the final was.
You guys are good. Well over 100 and you're taking a picture. Well, I guess you didn't need to shift at that point, so one hand was free. Jim
I had StoopidGirl with me at the time, she was napping. I figured it was time to see where things could go. Once I realized with the changes we had made in the software there was more room than I thought, I quickly woke her up and asked her to take a pic. The car is surprisingly stable at that speed too.
