When I was a kid, the black and white TV would get channels 3 (CBS) from Hartford and 8 (ABC) from New Haven. To get channel 6 (ABC), 10 (NBC) or 12 (CBS) from Providence, I had to use this to move the antenna;



The picture on 3 and 8 was always grainy and poor by today's high def standards, and 6, 10 and 12 were just about unwatchable, but I watched the hell out of cartoons every Saturday morning anyway.

I was in High School before I knew that the Wizard of Oz changes from black and white in Kansas to color in Oz.

 

Ha! I was the remote at our house, when I was a kid!

Patriotism was the norm and as children, we bowed our heads in prayer before school began....

 

When a stop sign was more than just a suggestion.

When right turn on red after stop was more than just a suggestion.

When four lights on the front of a car meant your high beams are on.

When fog lights were used strictly when it was uh...foggy.

When the left lane on a four lane highway was for passing.

When a yellow traffic signal meant prepare to stop.

When turn signals were used when turning.

When presidential elections were held every 4 years, not every 2.5 years.

When TV ended broadcasting for the day and there was nothing but "snow" on the tube......

 

When we used to eat corn, instead of put it in our gas tanks

Stations would lower their prices several times a day reacting to each other. (And, they gave Green Stamps or free drinking glasses.)

 

When you really could wash your kids mouth out with soap.

Let's just say back in the day when we were kids we were all raised and punished without the government or societies $.02.
