Speaking of grade school teachers, I remember them railing about the poor grammar and poor example being set by Dizzy Dean announcing the Cardinals ball games on the radio. He was destroying our little minds with his horrid grammar constantly saying 'ain't'.

Phone Operators. You know, the lady who you reached by dialing 0 on your phone dial.

They used to be a integral part of using a phone. And, in the days before the 911 emergency number, it was the Operator who you dialed to summon the police, fire department, or ambulance (which, in many cases, had nothing to do with the fire department).

 

Barber shop I went to, .25¢ a cut, a woman walked in and the whole place went quiet till she left. Ladies did NOT go into barber shops.
