Here's a sub category for this thread; a few things our kids will be clueless about:
    • Rotary dial phones
    • Records
    • Pong
    • Modems
    • Monochrome CRT monitors
    • Film cameras

Having to go to the operator's (Fran's) house to make a long distance call. She had a dial in her switchboard!

Our wild-land fire stations and lookouts used to have crank telephones which were hard wired between each location. Each spring someone had to walk the lines to be sure they were still in good working order, fixing what was broken along the way.

:cornut: Wondering how Aunt Nell was able to answer the switch board and use the powder room(bath, toilet, brush teeth, etc) all at the same time and especially as she was on duty 24/7/365? Uncle Gerald (her Son and the town Grocer and Barbe Que'r) even brought her meals. I asked Mom and she said be quiet and that a lady's toilet was no one's business and to never ask that question again of anyone under threat of a 'Hiding'(Scottish term for spanking)!

You can still buy them ... They are shipped in pieces from England. Sheesh there's a whole commentary on why we can no longer get them here in the states. I believe in Darwin.

Thinking back on it, I can't believe how powerful those and Cherry Bombs were and our parents let us have them. No helmets, fire proof coats, steel toed shoes or anything.

Created by Maryland Public Television, hosted by Ms Jean.

Went to high-school with one of her sons. Was a great house to go visit. He was PhD that focused on lichen and moss. She was the kindest lady I've ever had the please of meeting. Located on a large parcel of land its now all McMansions right on top of each other.

:cornut: Yes I can SEE them and click on them to watch them. What I am ignorant of is how to create a post with info from some where else embedded and then post it. :frown2:
