Cigarette machines.
Yes youngsters, there was a time when anybody (regardless of age) could walk up to a vending machine (located in most work places, gas stations, stores, etc.) insert just 45 cents (pre "sin" tax days) pull a handle attached to a rod and out would come a pack of your favorite smokes.
How did we ever survive? -

Had cable most of the time, but that rooftop antenna that could be turned was useful back when the cable outages were a weekly occurance.....
