Lucifer it is. :devil: Sulfur matches were invented in the mid 1800's. Their strong sulfurous smell gave rise to the nickname associated with the devil.
My family used to have some property in Maine that was once owned by Diamond Match Company... with remains of the old saw mill... There were some old "Lucifer" boxes in the barn. ..... You're older than dirt if you remember when turning up the heat meant putting another log in the wood stove ....

Gas Wars. Stations would lower their prices several times a day reacting to each other. (And, they gave Green Stamps or free drinking glasses.)
Speaking of gas wars/shortage. Remember when there were odd even days for getting gas based on your license tag number..
Yup and it was really cheap back then. The attendant pumped your gas while he was smoking and also cleaned your windshield and checked your oil.
