Emptying the glass bowl fuel filter on Dad's '47 Chevy. Then draining and changing the oil in the air cleaner. Not to mention the three on the tree vacuum shifter. And vacuum operated wipers that speed up when you let off the gas and slow down when you floor it! On the up side, you could hot-wire it with the foil from a cigarette pack or a stick of gum. But, if you do that, make sure it has enough gas for your joyride because you can't hot-wire those pesky locking gas caps! I gots first hand knowledge of that. Doubly embarrassing when your Dad's a cop and you "stole" his car from the Police Station parking lot.
There were many TV shows mentioned but I can't believe no one mention Route 66. My personal favorite western was Have Gun Will Travel.
There used to be lots of good westerns. Wanted Dead or Alive, The Rebel, Cheyenne, and don't forget the brothers Maverick or Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. I can remember listening to The Cisco Kid and The Lone Ranger on the radio. Damn! I AM old!
I will admit to listening to the Lone Ranger on Saturday morning radio, but I was very very young back then. I guess that still makes me old now.
Sitting in my mom's kitchen on Sat. mornings listening to all those programs on the radio. They are some good memories.
Then the Potato chip guy from Charles Chips would deliver a can of Chips. They the Vacuum cleaner guys would stop by. I am not really sure which one was my Dad because I look nothing like my 4 brothers.
