This is the one I have. I don't really like doing business with ECS. You may find it on Amazon also

Some have used one that uses your iPhone that does all the BMW/MINI codes I think the name is iCarly.
P0300 is miss fire cylinder misfire several cylinders. P0304 could be a fuel injector on cylinder 4.
https://www.motoringalliance.com/articles/ecu-codes-chart-2nd-generation-mini.57/
If it has a miss at idle you could disconnect the coil pack for that cylinder and see if it stays the same. If it doesn't get worse I would check the number 4 injector. Maybe move it to another cylinder and see if it fallows it.
I know you have checked everything but make very sure all the plugs are plugged in correctly and there is no corrosion. Check the vacuum lines for cracks and that they are all plugged in, some can be hard to see and get at.
Let us know what you find. Hopefully some of our Gen2 guys will be along to help. I am a Gen1 guy with Gen 2 leanings,Ha.

That's what I was trying to avoid, there are no Mini places here except 3 hrs away, the BMW place said they don't usually work on them and they are an hour away. But I'll look into a different code reader for Mini's

Better yet. Chad at detroit tuned really knows Minis. I have used this link and leave my phone number he will get back to you and answer your questions. He would probably do it for free but he is running a business and his time is worth something. Besides he really supports the Mini community. Give Chad a try.

I just watched a YouTube video on this very issue and mechanic was using a code reader that would not reset codes so he went to another one that used an iPhone and it was able to do the job and Welcome to Motoring Alliance.

Welcome to M/A.
There are some proprietary codes that a standard code reader can not pick up. You may need a reader that will read those. Otherwise you'll be chasing your tail.
Someone please tell this person what that reader is. I can't remember which one it is. -
Just to make sure I understand. The codes reset and did not come back but you are still in limp mode.
if that’s the case all I can think of is you still have codes your reader can’t see and or can’t reset. I looked at a clubman yesterday for my mother-in-law. The guy told me he had replaced the front bumper, hood and AC radiator, the previous owner hit a dear. Anyway it is a very nice car he said it had no codes and I could take it to a mechanic for a pre buy. I hooked up my Cade reader and found a ton of codes. He couldn’t believe it. Most of them were there because of the worked he did. So I cleared them and drove it none of the codes came back.
So right now I think you May need a better reader or take it to a shop that works on Minis and give them $100 to check the codes. If your keeping the car I would get a good reader first. Heck the gen 2 Mini have to have the battery registered to the car when you replace it. Everyone here wanted $100 to do it. After a new battery for my wife’s R57 and my R58 the reader has paid for its self -
Just a thought. It may be in limp mode because the #4 injector is not delivering enough fuel for higher speeds without going to lean on that cylinder. This could be why it is staying in limp mode

Yes if your reader can read it. P0304 is an injector code. But it may be possible that your reader just didn’t clear everything. I am just making a guess from the codes you gave.

I have it read with a new reader and I get codes 2B4E dme, 2B4B dme these have to do with the gas pedal sensor I guess. I also checked the misfire issue with this new machine and it shows it misfire when not using the throttle. ie at idle but not all the time. any ideas where to go from here? -
Well the only thing I can find is this over at Mini2
https://www.mini2.com/threads/no-throttle-response-after-timing-chain.353423/
I am sorry But this one has me. It could be a bad throttle peddle but I can't be sure of that. They really don't go out very often.
I would make sure every thing is plugged in good and all the plugs are in good shape. Like it says on MINI2 check your throttle body is plugged in well.
Sorry I cant be more help. Let us know what you find.
