In my case I have the "S" also (very low milage / year), I would let the dealer do the free oil change as per their schedule and I would do a 5K mileage change while it was on their free oil change plan. I'm sticking to the 5K change interval.... Especially because of the turbo and I never use non synthetic.... Oil is relatively cheap in the scheme of things.

Now if it's a leased MINI that you have or someone has a non turbo..... Well, that's a totally different road apple.... so to speak ....

I don't think MINI reduced their oil change interval down to 5K..... It may be that the service tech forgot to reset the oil meter at your last change.... If you aren't putting on the milage and they change it based on time, you could still be running the meter on the 10K change interval with 3,800 to go... Will they change it again after 3,800.... Probably not, as they will have recorded the milage at the last change....

I checked my oil the other day, and it doesn't appear that I have consumed any in the last 3.5 months since I bought it. Very strange since all of you guys say they consume. Unless I just cant read the dipstick. Is there something I'm not seeing?

    Fair enough!

My oil level was up to the little hole in the plastic bit on the end, so I must be good to go. Need to change it soon, too bad I can't have the dealership do it. But I prefer doing my own anyway, just gotta save a few bucks and get the stuff.
